Privacy Policy

Effective date: 24 September 2026 · Applies to String Tuner 1.0 and later on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android.

The short version: String Tuner collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no server. (On Android, the Google component that reads QR codes has its own rules — see section 2.) The microphone is analysed live on your device to show the pitch and is never recorded. Everything you create in the app stays on your device, and you can erase it at any time.

✓ NoneData collectedNothing is sent to us or anyone else
✓ NeverAudio recordedPitch is measured in memory, then discarded
✓ NoneAds, analytics, trackingNo third-party SDKs of that kind

1. Who we are

String Tuner is published by lapnito.cz s.r.o. (Lapnito Development Studio), company ID (IČO) 19537441, Czech Republic. Contact for anything in this policy: tom@lapnito.cz.

App identifiers: cz.lapnito.stringtuner (iOS, watchOS) · com.tomas.string_tuner (Android).

2. The app itself never goes online

String Tuner contains no networking code of its own: no server, no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting. This is checked automatically on every build of the app. We never receive any personal data from the app — not your sound, not your practice history, not your device identifiers, not your location.

iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch: the app makes no network connections at all. QR codes are read by Apple's built-in frameworks on the device.

Android — one exception you should know about: QR codes are read by Google ML Kit, provided through Google Play services. Because of that component, the Android app package lists the internet permission, and Google Play services may download the code-reading model and send Google its own diagnostic and usage data about that component. This is governed by Google's privacy policy (see also ML Kit data disclosure). The camera image itself is analysed on the phone. ML Kit is used only when you scan a QR code; the tuner and everything else in the app never use it.

3. Permissions and why they are needed

PermissionWhat it is used forIf you say no
Microphone To hear your instrument and show its pitch — in the tuner, the trainer and the voice range check. The sound is analysed live in memory and thrown away immediately. It is never recorded, stored or sent. The microphone is only active while one of those screens is listening. Tuning by ear, reference tones, the drone and the metronome still work. The tuner explains how to allow access.
Camera (optional) Only to scan a QR code — a teacher's setup code, a student's result code, or a shared scale. The camera image is decoded on the device; nothing is photographed or saved. On Android this uses Google ML Kit (section 2). Everything except QR scanning works normally.

The app asks for nothing else: no location, contacts, photos, calendar, Bluetooth scanning, health data or advertising identifier. You can withdraw either permission at any time in your device settings.

4. What is stored on your device

To work, the app keeps the following only on your device, in its private storage:

None of this is uploaded anywhere by the app. It may be included in your own device backup (iCloud Backup, Google backup or a computer backup) if you have enabled backups — that is a service between you and Apple or Google, governed by their terms.

5. Teacher mode and QR codes

Teachers and students exchange setups and results by showing a QR code on one screen and scanning it with another phone. There is no server in between — the data travels as the picture on the screen.

If you are a teacher, you decide what you type into the app about your students. We never see it.

6. Files, sharing and links

7. Apple Watch, widget and Siri

8. Ratings

The app may occasionally show the standard App Store or Google Play rating prompt. That prompt is run entirely by Apple or Google; we do not learn whether you saw it, what you rated, or who you are.

9. How to delete your data

10. Children

String Tuner is made for musicians of every age, including children learning an instrument. Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children either. It contains no advertising, no chat and no way to contact strangers.

11. Your rights (GDPR)

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access, correct, delete and port your personal data, and to object to its processing. Because the app sends us no data, we hold nothing about you from the app — everything is on your device, where you can view and delete it yourself. You are welcome to write to us with any question, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Czech data protection authority, Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, or the authority in your own country.

12. Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change. We will not quietly start collecting data under the old wording.
